The Leach Family- the farmers
We became passionate about pasture raised meat and eggs once we started having kids. We started to realize that the meat and eggs that we were purchasing at the grocery store were not really the quality that they were advertising. Words like " free range", " natural", "cage free", "no antibiotics"- were all so confusing to us. What did those all mean? Did they really even mean anything?
We decided it was time to do our own research to really learn what we were feeding our children. After several months of research, and lots of time learning and exploring from experts like Joel Salatin ( Polyface farms) , we were ready to get started. We purchased a 6 acre farm out in Bumpass, VA and started with just 25 layer hens. One year later, we decided to expand our flock and did our first batch of 25 meat birds " broilers". We now have over 75 layers and do batches of at least 100 meat birds at a time.
Today, our family farm is definitely still a ‘work in progress’. Each day is a new journey, bringing new challenges and new beginnings and we continue to learn, grow and progress along the way. At the end of the day we know that the food we are eating is wholesome, pure and safe, and that the animals we raised lived a happy and healthy life --this is what drives us to raise our animals for our family table and yours.
We are members of the American Pastured Poultry Association and subscribe to Acres USA and Stockman Grass Farmer. We are always striving to learn as much as we can about pasture based farming.
From our family to yours!
